DATA MIGRATION
Migrating data from your old software to the new system is often one of the most time consuming tasks associated with the implementation of a new system.

Some of the common problems with data conversion include:


•	No simple way to identify errors in the legacy system prior to the conversion.

•	Differences in processing methods between the legacy and new systems.

•	Data maps that are inconsistent, incomplete or ambiguous.

Second Foundation’s data conversion experts can assist you throughout the data migration. You will save time and money if you use our skilled and knowledgeable consultants from the very beginning of the migration effort.

First, our consultants will assist you in evaluating the need to migrate historical data. This includes a review of the reliability of the legacy data, your business needs and alternate sources of the historical data. For whatever data is needed in the new system, our conversion experts will review and migrate the data as if the transactions had originally occurred in your new system.

Next we perform a thorough data evaluation and data mapping of the legacy system. This task will provide information needed to develop the detailed conversion plan and estimate time required. Our consultants use the results of data evaluation and data mapping to provide recommendations for validation scripts to ensure that the legacy data is clean and suitable for conversion. We will provide detail documentation for later validation and for future conversion projects.

Once the conversion plan is approved, we begin building scripts and tables required to convert the legacy data, testing conversion procedures, and validating the converted data.

Although every database has its unique set of tools, we’ve studied them and uncovered ways to use them effectively. Since the tools we use are native to the database server, conversion times are significantly faster than using third-party utilities.
